History is all around us.
Historical markers connect us to the past.
They inform us about the legacy of events that transpired long ago or relatively
recently as we stand in front of them, on the very soil where they happened, or as we
see them through a car window, passing them along
the roadside as we travel from place to place.
The historical markers we encounter are the product of individuals,
community organizations, and philanthropic institutions that work to remind and educate
all of us about the people and events that shaped the world around us.

Unfortunately, many of the roads we now take bypass these markers, or the marker locations are along fast-moving roads that offer little or no facility for us to stop, read the information they convey, and take in the surroundings.
