Our HistMarks app will soon be available for Android and Apple phones. We built it in response to taking drives and passing historical markers along the way but not being able to stop either due to traffic, timing, or safety. With the HistMarks app you can explore the world of historical markers in a number of different ways:

• Driving: allow the app to list nearby historical markers according to proximity to your current location.
  
  
• Exploring: select a location and the app will list all associated markers.
  
  
• Searching: enter key words to find associated markers.
  

Features of the app include the ability to save markers to a private list and control functions, such as whether the marker information will be read to you. One powerful feature of the app is the ability to take tours created by others and the ability to build tours yourself and even publish them for others to find and use. A tour will consist of general information about one area of nearby markers, a starting location for the tour, any number of markers, and information to share about the area that might be of interest or help, like places to stay or eat, historical society buildings, and so on. Additional functions include accessing maps for a single marker or a tour of markers and accessing any available photos related to each marker.
